Schwerin is the capital city of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and is one of the oldest cities in this region. The most iconic building is the romantic Schwerin palace, which is located on an island in Lake Schwerin. But the city also has a genuinely nice old town, which is still mostly intact due to only minor damage during World War II. The city is located on a large lake and is not far away from the sea.
